Early signs of restoration success

Yesterday we visited the Beech Farm Estate in East Sussex where, last summer, seed was transferred from their Coronation Meadow, Coach Road Field, to the receptor site Triangle Field. Back in the summer when Triangle Field was being prepared, a strip was left along the hedgerow at the top of the field. Now, in January, with the seed germinated, the strip that was left is clearly visible against the seeded area (to the right). The low-stocking of sheep are clearly enjoying the herb-rich grassland of the reseeded area which is already showing signs of species such as Plantains, Hawkweeds, Trefoils and Clovers – these species and several more should emerge in the coming months. Estate Manager, Keith Datchler said it looked 'hugely promising' and is pleased with the results so far.
