Eycott Hill Meadows, Penrith

Recipient Meadow

Eycott Hill Meadows are part of an upland site in The Lake District National Park. Restoration work here is part of Cumbria Wildlife Trust's long term vision to transform Eycott Hill into a nature reserve.

In summer 2014 work got underway to create a meadow on a trial area of 1ha. Green hay harvested from Piper Hole was spread at Eycott Hill after the ground there had been prepared. Subsequently, seed was collected by hand and supplemented with yellow rattle before being spread. Further works are planned for 2015 and it is hoped that species such as knapweed, greater burnet and wood cranesbill will establish here in future.
