Thurrock Thameside Nature Park Meadow
Essex Wildlife Trust, along with a number of partners, is restoring one of the largest landfill sites in Western Europe recreating a range of important habitats on the Thames Estuary. In summer 2014 work began to create a meadow on 6ha of land here and the ground was prepared by forage harvesting and disc harrowing. Green hay from Langdon Nature Reserve, Essex's donor Coronation Meadow, was transported to the new meadow on the same day and was strewn using a muck spreader. Further enhancement works are planned for 2015 and it is hoped that plant species including bird's foot trefoil, selfheal and oxeye daisy will establish and thrive here.
