Whitcliffe Common, Ludlow

Recipient Meadow

A site of 1.7ha and a remnant of a much larger medieval common, Whitcliffe Common is a recreation area enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. This summer saw cutting and harrowing at the site in preparation for receiving green hay from Hayton Meadow. The green hay was transported from the donor site by tractor and trailer in loose bales and was then strewn by hand at Whitcliffe Common. It is hoped that in the future, species such as Birds-foot trefoil, Common Knapweed and Common Spotted orchid will establish on the here.
