Wigan Flashes Meadows

Recipient Meadow

In summer 2015 Wigan Flashes was cut for hay, which was then used by a local beef farmer for feed. Green hay which had been cut, bailed and transported from the donor Coronation Meadow was spread quickly here using a manure spreader. This was then tedded to even out the spread of seed and allowed the donor hay to dry in the field and encourage seed drop.

The urban nature of the site prevents grazing so a football match was organised - between Greenteam and the Lancashire Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers - as a method of trampling the seed into the ground. The game lasted for seven hours!
