Meadow at Fir Grove, Wreningham
The meadow at Fir Grove was cut, raked and harrowed in preparation for receiving green hay from Wood Lane Road-verge meadow, in August this year. The hay cutting was a joint effort by Norfolk Wildlife Trust, the County Council who look after the Roadside Nature Reserve, and Farm Conservation who have worked with farmers to find suitable sites that will benefit from the seed.
Green hay was cut using a brush cutter, transported to Fir Grove and then spread by volunteers within a couple of hours which maintains the viability of the seeds. The hay was spread thinly and evenly and then bedded in to increase the chance of the seeds germinating in the 3ha of new meadow created here.
