Recipient Meadow

Shireoaks is a former pit village in Nottinghamshire. The site for the new meadow is situated alongside Shireoaks Road, the opposite side of which runs adjacent to the Chesterfield Canal. In August 2014, green hay was harvested from Ashton's Meadow, the donor meadow for Nottinghamshire, and was spread at Shireoaks. It is hoped that plant species including birds foot trefoil, lady's bedstraw and field scabious will establish here and thrive, maximising the biodiversity potential of the site and 'providing an attractive gateway into the village'.
